I want you to know why God is so greatly displeased with James Goll’s article featured in Charisma Magazine, “The Fourth Great Wave of the Holy Spirit Has Begun”. After more than 60 years of ministry failure, asking what is wrong with our faith, what is wrong with the church, Goll and other ministers are backtracking. It’s easier to believe that each blight upon faith somehow fits into God’s plan, than to continue to admit catastrophic failure.
We’re talking about spokes, and wheels, and hubs. The reasoning is that if each failed ministry can be seen as a spoke that is connected to a hub in a wheel then the spoke cannot be faulted for having led the church into error as each spoke claims to be hubbed to Christ… and faith is claimed to be a progression towards something greater –better.
I want to share a word of knowledge that God gave me in 2004: “Rehubbing Christ to Christianity”. This one word changes everything. The current Christian culture reinvented the wheel to allow for divergence to imitate unity. Each spoke claims to have a God given presence and voice in the wheel.
Imagine, if you will, the center of those voices all speaking of the same hope that someday they would arrive at truth, someday the power of God would be realized, that someday the collogue of hybrid truths might make sense, that someday the progression of truths might lead to something concrete.
If you are not with me yet, listen to the language Goll uses. I’m quoting the caption under the article image, “A fourth great wave of the Holy Spirit is preparing to let loose.” Do you hear the hopeful strains? In reality, the Apostolic Wave has already broken and the church is well into the transition (which Goll refused). Clearly, this is not Jesus speaking through Goll, but the flesh speaking of that which has been and continues to be out of reach for him.
Goll is speaking for many believers when he bemoans, and I’m paraphrasing here, How can we follow the trends and shifts of each wave, survive it, and still retain integrity in Christ? This is sadly the paradox of the false religious system, its wheel is broken – faith is immobilized.
The true nature of this hub should be coming into focus for you. It is NOT Jesus, but the hopes and dreams of ministers who are no longer anchored to Christ. The Apostolic Wave is not something that needs to be “survived”. God is rehubbing Christ to the Church. The false apostolic is thus being exposed by God as not being joined to the hub of Christ.
Diverging Spokes on a Broken Wheel Does Not Make for Fit Stewardship
Yes, we are in the Apostolic Wave of restoration. That restoration is of the covenant of Jesus Christ whereas Jesus is restored to the church. His truth – His spiritual tools – His priesthood. All these have been missing from previous movements.
The real question that is pressing upon the minds of ministers is, How can I retain my belief system and also enter into all that God has prepared for the church in this season of change? The answer is clear. One cannot repent and walk contrary to God at the same time. Equally true, a minister cannot “borrow” truth from the restored stewardship, claim this as a revelation and mix God’s truth into his error and then claim to lead and correct the church.
Can God Move Through Individuals Towards His Goal?
I’m often asked, Don’t you believe that God did something worth saving and hanging onto through each minister? Are we to throw out the baby with the bath water? Those kinds of questions are asked in the absence of true discernment when one does not have the foundation of truth and cannot judge what is of God and what is not of God. So the heart compromises with error, wanting to hang onto the familiar man-made traditions God is cleansing from the church.
There is a difference between God’s voice heard in ministers to prepare the heart for separation and cleansing, to move the church into the unity of the faith, and the voice of aspiration heard in ministers who desire to remain independent, refusing the transition into which God has called the church.
We can observe in the time of the Judges that God moved individuals called judges/deliverers when the church was in the wilderness and the tabernacle was still under curtains.
But then God selected one man, David. To David God gave the pattern of the temple and it was after having received and implemented that pattern that Israel entered a new season for the true “Hub” of their faith.
God elected this one man (David) to take the church from the skins of Moses (carnal) to the stones of Christ (new covenant). It was after that transition that everyone took their place. The Levites functioned in the temple and the prophets confirmed the change and present covenant, which pointed towards Christ being revealed.
If we compare the state of Israel to today’s church, the parallel is that the disobedient cast aside David as God’s anointed servant and instead chose to elect their own leaders.
1 Peter 2:7,
“Unto you therefore which believe he is precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner.”
The Big Picture Forgotten
In his zeal to set order to the history of church events of the last 100 years, Goll forgot the big picture and to answer the question, Why did God elect to initiate in this manner?
What was missing is just as important as what was evident. The Spirit of God moved in divers ways to call out a people for Himself. This was just the first step, but not the end of the journey. As God began to call out to His people to turn from the failed traditions of man and accept again the fulness of Christ in His covenant, many turned from God and used the voice of His call to them to further enlarge the flames of their aspiration to keep believers bound to their false promises.
As the Spirit of God moved in the days of the Judges, He was also pointing to a conclusion to its wandering from tribe to tribe. The passage of leadership from one judge to another wasn’t completed until David arose to bring unity of the faith into one location with both his stewardship and priesthood to bind all believers into one house.
God is doing this again in the church today. There have been many flare-ups of the Spirit in many places, calling the people into one house, preparing them to enter again into covenant with God. But each move of the Spirit upon the church was redirected by the devil who sought to quench the fire of God.
In each movement the heart was hopeful that the missing pieces to faith might finally come together. What was lacking was the true face of Christ and everyone felt that even though they couldn’t put their finger on it. It wasn’t the laughter, prophetic, tithing, prosperity, healing, shepherd movement, or evangelism of nations.
The church was lacking the knowledge of the covenant and the language of the Spirit. The Christian priesthood had fallen into decay. The idea that God would raise up an apostle, a singular steward of His grace was scary for many charismatic groups who individually mustered together music ministries and book stores to spread their doctrines of error.
We are witnessing history in the making and a repeat of it as the church follows the same pattern of Israel. The transition from Egypt into the promised land was met with many changes as the Spirit of the Lord prepared them for the next stage of faith. Yet not all that came out of Egypt had the heart of faith as God testified, only 2 (Joshua and Caleb) were counted worthy to enter. The rebels and faithless fell in the wilderness for even though they heard the word from God’s steward, Moses, they each took the word to themselves and drew away from Moses and thus abandoned God’s plan.
The woman of Samaria at the well of Jacob is yet another example for the church today. Still embracing the Abrahamic traditions in the presence of our Lord, she sought to correct Jesus, pointing to her long standing traditions as better than God’s plan. Jesus corrected her perceptions and introduced a new movement soon to follow in Himself.
The Apostolic Movement
Many will miss this true movement of the Lord, while sounding the trumpet for it. The apostolic as it is heralded by Goll and other ministers is a derivative of Christ and it’s source is not the grace of God.
The true apostolic movement is not a convergence of the errors of the past desperate to find excuse to hold onto this false light in the present, but rather the restoration of the covenant of Jesus Christ in the fulness of His foundation knowledge and the fulness of His gifts of propitiation.
There are many like Goll who see the move of God announced on the horizon, but like Gamaliel in the book of Acts will take a back seat, preferring to keep their present alliances intact, fearing to step out into the unknown. Are you like Goll and Gamaliel or will you step out into the true Apostolic movement that is now happening?
