Bill Hamon offers 3 precepts to discern prophecy:

  • Revelation

  • Interpretation
  • Application

Yet this guidance system failed for those that embraced it. Why? Because there was NO foundation of truth on which to base discernment. B.H. gave the church a broken scale.

Let not the flesh divide what the Spirit is producing. You will find that Hamon follows a man-pleasing gospel that divides spiritual matters to the fleshly kingdom and what follows is man-pleasing prophecy. This pattern is seen in his multiple and divers foundations.

While Jesus and His apostles provide one foundation of truth for the body to build their faith upon and to steward the grace of God to prophesy of Christ, Hamon divides prophecy from the foundation of truth and Jesus’ covenant to take prophecy to himself, and this is the pattern he teaches. Prophecy is colored by one’s own perception.

Divers Weights and a False Balance

Hamon offers the divers weights and false balance that God spoke against.

Proverbs 20:23
Divers weights are an abomination unto the Lord; and a false balance is not good.

Let’s find out more about divers scales in terms that you might better understand. When ministers offer their formulas for spiritual growth and warfare, and offer keys to hear God’s voice, these are multiple scales that compete against the one true scale – Jesus Christ.

Divers scales are an abomination to God because a person is putting his own stamp, or image on God’s spiritual coin. So, let’s look at whose image belongs on God’s coin.

Exodus 30:13
This they shall give, every one that passeth among them that are numbered, half a shekel after the shekel of the sanctuary: (a shekel is twenty gerahs:) an half shekel shall be the offering of the Lord.

A coin bears the face of its steward. All the currency of the world bears the image of the steward of that nation. Seeing that we belong to the kingdom of God, we only use one coin, the coin of His stewardship.

The unrighteous step forward in the place of God’s stewardship. Not called to that position, they preach another Jesus and use the fleshly kingdom as their scale. They’re volunteering their own coinage to use in God’s temple (Jesus’ new covenant).

In Jesus we have a new covenant. God gave new terms, a new law, new spiritual tools, and a new priesthood and 12 building blocks that are vital for our faith to reflect Jesus and express Him in prophecy. These are the building blocks of God’s scale: grace, faith, righteousness, justification, sanctification, holiness, peace, rest, charity, truth, regeneration, and the renewing of the mind. This is the DNA of your faith. The face of Jesus is seen in each element to produce in us what He is by the effectual working power of the Holy Spirit.

Jesus is Our Foundation for Prophecy

We cannot have a separate foundation for prophecy. That would mean that Jesus is not reflected in your prophecy. I’ll say it again, Jesus is our foundation for prophecy because all prophesy testifies of Him.

John 15:26
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me.

Revelation 19:10
…for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

James Goll also supports a separate foundation for prophecy that is keyed to man’s inclination to test himself on his own grounds, and this is why he says, “we can never expect to understand spiritual matters; our human comprehension is inadequate”.

People say that when they’re not able to divide the fleshly kingdom from God’s kingdom. Goll does not expect to understand the basics of faith because he can’t separate the truth of Jesus Christ from his own nature, so these two kingdoms are constantly being mixed, and that means his faith is divided. Not knowing what belongs to Christ and what belongs to man, prophecy will always hold a question mark in a person’s mind.

Displaced Prophecy

Let’s say you want to learn how to prophesy, but you did not receive your discipleship training to know how to build upon God’s covenant foundation, and a thought crosses your mind, you’re not equipped to separate the kingdom of the flesh from the kingdom of God. You don’t have God’s one scale to weigh your thoughts upon and that means your discernment does not have its roots in heaven.

Failure to receive Jesus’ building blocks, prophecy is displaced. A person cannot discern the voice of his fleshly nature from the voice of God. A thought crosses your mind and you don’t know if that’s coming from your own moral code, your God-Code, your signature desires, or the fruits of iniquity God has targeted for healing.

You need that training first to separate your faith to Jesus’ covenant. Otherwise, you’ll be prophesying from a defiled conscience.

The foundation of truth is a gift from God to the early church and God now restored this same, original foundation to the end time church through the re-gifting of the apostolic calling. Believers are once again equipped to discern the source of prophecy, whether it comes from the kingdom of the flesh (man-pleasing prophecy) or from the throne of God (prophecy that testifies of Jesus).

In this way you can judge the fruit by the tree. The true fruit of prophecy will always resemble the tree it came from – Jesus Christ. False prophecy looks like the tree it came from – the fleshly nature of man. To be specific,

  • Man’s moral code is seen in the prophesies that are uttered to relieve his defiled conscience with the hope of God’s solutions to his problems and the promise of better days ahead. Prophecy that is born on the branches of the moral code carries this lesser power. It is not the power of Jesus Christ.

  • Man’s God-Code is seen in the efforts to prophesy victory over his problems. When a person does not have the growth cycles God intended, regeneration is off the table. Prophecy that is born on the branches of the God-Code carries this lesson power that appeals to the principle of man. It is not the power of Jesus.

So then, prophecy is judged by the tree from which it was plucked. It is the foundation of truth that is our blueprint for all things we need to serve God, know God, and please God according to Jesus Christ and His new covenant. Equipped with this foundation, believers can now separate the nature of man from the nature of Christ, and thus rightly discern prophecy. It is time to put away childish things.
