Your faith is under attack in many different ways. One attack is against the very existence of God. A common question I have encountered on social media goes like this: “Where is your evidence that God exists?”

In this blog we’ll unwrap the question to see what’s hidden inside and we’ll also see how Jesus answered this question when He encountered it. From the little things to the big things, people asked Jesus many questions to bring clarity to their own personal struggles. In each of the examples below, the questions directed at Jesus were subjective. In other words, they were a way for people to produce their own evidence.

– “If he be the King of Israel, let him now come down from the cross, and we will believe him.” (Matthew 27:42)

– “This man, if he were a prophet, would have known who and what manner of woman this is that toucheth him: for she is a sinner.” (Luke 7:39)

– “For there is no man that doeth any thing in secret, and he himself seeketh to be known openly. If thou do these things, shew thyself to the world.” (John 7:4)

These are attacks from without, as these kinds of questions were being asked by those who refused to believe in Jesus. The question was meant to open the door for someone to produce their own evidence against God’s plan. I brought this out to open up how Christians fall into the same trap when trying to teach God’s plan subjectively and this is also how faith is under attack from within.

For example, the arguments for or against tongues, or the discussions about how God leads us, or whether or not current revival trends are of God, and where that evidence can be found. All these arguments are subjective and based on man’s nature (what he knows natrually), not on God’s truth. We’ll begin with John chapter 6 to see how God is laying this understanding open for the church today.

John 9:1-3
1 And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.

2 And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

3 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

You’ll notice that this question was not asked by the scribes and Pharisees who were trying to disprove Jesus, but rather it was asked by Jesus’ disciples. They asked, “Who did sin” based on what they saw. Jesus knew that the root of this question and of all theological struggles was hidden in man’s nature (sin).

The disciples used their own fallen nature as a reference point in their search for reality and they could not see beyond themselves and that’s why Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.” (John 8:12). Jesus redirected His disciples, as if to say, “You’re trying to fit everything you see into your present theology, but I’m teaching you a new way – to reference me – not sin. I’m your new point of reference. I am the new work of God.”

You might be thinking that it should be ok to ask questions because that’s how we learn. But we’d miss Jesus’ teaching point: when a question is asked from man’s nature, a person is trying to reason with God to get clarity in his state of separation from God. Christians aren’t really learning from God; they’re still discussing sin and gathering evidence of God’s existence based on their own self-examination.

Remember: To preach against sin does not mean you’re preaching for Jesus. To preach for Jesus a person has to preach His record and covenant commandments. These are the dividing lines that God wants you to consider as He transitions your hope and liberty to Christ.

The Evidence That Man is Looking for

Just to recap, God is bringing the church into a new understanding. When people ask questions it’s always subjective to themselves. They already have an answer in their mind that they are looking for that they want confirmed or bring clarity to for themselves, that fits into the scope of their experiences. Like I said earlier, this is what we know naturally.

What man knows naturally is what he uses as a scale for his discernment (what is true and what is false) to grow his confidence. The evidence in his mind is what he has developed trust in while in this world that is true for him. This can be anything. A steady job, a successful marriage, faithful friends, financial success, health, strength, wisdom, intelligence etc. These things are real to a person’s experience and have been proven dependable so this is his gauge for reality.

“Science” as Evidence

Is science God’s evidence? I want to spend a little bit of time on this subject because it also is talked about quite a bit on social media. You may have noticed that many people like to use the word science as a trump card in conversations without truly understanding what they are saying.

On a show I was watching recently, science was defined as something that is repeatable. If it’s not repeatable then it’s not science. There are many different ways to explain science so I want to stick with this simple definition because this is what people are referring to when they use science in an argument as something that can be predicated. When certain laws are applied in nature such as mathematics or physics you can predict the outcome. 2+2 will always equal 4 and what goes up has to come down as an example. This is what is referred to as facts.

So then the confidence and the boast, is in this predictability. It doesn’t change, which is what people take comfort in. This is what is both deceptive and appealing. Science and what we know naturally seems to be the only constant, so while this seems like the logical place to start to understand ourselves, it’s not. It’s not the record which God placed in Jesus Christ for our true confidence and hope in Him. We were created in the image and likeness of God so to understand our purpose we need to look to Him, not ourselves.

This is what truth does (the knowledge of Jesus Christ). It challenges man to bring these things to light: that the knowledge one is building with is a deception (fallacy) and is insufficient for their covering (shield), peace, hope, confidence, and salvation of the soul. This offends many people so looking at this from God’s perspective is very critical here. God is not condemning man or exposing his vulnerability for everyone to stare at and make fun of. This shame is what man is responding to that belongs to the kingdom of darkness that is manifesting as a result of building in that kingdom. This is something that isn’t seen without truth to make that contrast and although it hurts, God is providing man with the option to clothe themselves in His garments instead.

Revelation 3:18
I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.

Science comes from the Latin word scientia which means knowledge. Science is actually a testimony of God’s consistency, as nothing is brought into existence or works without His power (1 Timothy 6:20)(Romans 1:20) but again, this isn’t the record that God has provided for faith. Jesus Christ is the record of our faith:

John 14:6
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way [pattern], the truth [knowledge], and the life [power]: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

Remember: The knowledge that you live by is also the knowledge you are trusting to save your soul (what you are putting your faith and confidence in).

The Evidence That God Provides in Jesus Christ

God uses His own record (knowledge) and provides His own evidence for faith, not the evidence that the world provides with these forms of knowledge. While they seem dependable, show a pattern of consistency, predictability and confidence building at times, it never lasts and can’t be defended. This can be measured, as the soul is left empty in the end, the mind and emotions are constantly at war and the conscience remains unpurged, testifying of guilt, shame, anger, regret and remorse etc. This is the false evidence that rivals the true evidence of God that you don’t want to put your faith in.

So where is the evidence that God exists? The answer is simple. His grace. This is what salvation starts with. The grace of God is the revelation of Jesus Christ that is communicated to the heart as His knowledge is embraced as the record for our faith, in order for man to be brought into a covenant relationship with Him. As we shoulder this yoke by faith which the Lord teaches us through His sanctified stewardship and continue to abide therein, we learn His peace, His confidence, His rest, His joy etc. We see a pattern of consistency every day with His grace that we grow by which is the new inspiration, power and witness we now live by. Through this process we bear forth His fruit to reflect His likeness. This brings the soul (emotions) and spirit (mind) into agreement with Him and purges the conscience, reflecting this testimony of Himself.

Now you might be wondering If faith is so simple why doesn’t everyone believe? The answer to that question is because not all men have faith (2 Thessalonians 3:2). Which means, not everyone chooses to yield to what God is revealing. The grace of God is present to draw faith from the heart, it’s just simply denied. This is what it means to harden one’s heart.

This is an important point here because this explains the root of the problem. This is where the understanding that would be gained by faith stops and the reason of man enters in, to draw false conclusions about God (what we know naturally). So instead of seeing the true image of God, people only see themselves, in their darkened state and resist God based on those conclusions. We can see why so many people and believers are angry with God and without His hope but this is not the image of Christ they are seeing. There is nothing appealing about the fallen nature of man.

Jude 1:10
But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.

This mindset opens the door to many paradoxes and unanswered questions as opposed to someone that is obedient to that revelation (simple faith). For them, God opens His heart to reveal the mysteries of His kingdom and salvation. God has concealed Himself from the proud.

There is a very important reason for this that will tie this altogether for you as you also keep in mind what we have talked about up to this point. Apostle Eric vonAnderseck explains this in his book Breaking the Antichrist Code: The Blueprint of Deception that is available on Amazon, so I want to quote that for you now:

People often pose this ten-million-dollar question: If you’re God, why not just force your will upon your creation? Another question piggybacks on that question: Why did God choose to conceal Himself? If you’re God, show yourself to the world; prove your existence.

First of all, faith is not born in the heart through God controlling man’s choices but rather through people choosing to yield their will to Him according to the terms of the covenant. Second, God knows the design of the soul, that it can feign itself to another person’s will for self-gain (flattery by assimilation without faith), and therefore, God concealed Himself from the pride of man so that he could not win God’s favor through contrivance with aspiration, principle, and imagination. God instead chose to reveal Himself through Jesus Christ for praiseworthiness and salvation.

God knows the possibilities and probabilities of the soul and has therefore taken all things into consideration. In order to get the product that He is looking for, He had to put the soul into an environment of testing.

This environment of testing is used as a melting pot, a furnace of iron to test and to prove our faithfulness. God is not sadistic; He does not get pleasure from human suffering. Rather, He is proving the human soul, which He made in His image for the purpose of taking on His likeness, and preparing the soul to rule and reign with Him. This is His sole desire. p236.

A New Education

Just as God provides His own knowledge and evidence for faith, He also provides His own stewards to teach that knowledge to enter into that experience. We can see this same parallel in the teachers and professors that teach at the universities in the world.
The gospel of Jesus Christ is no different in this regard as an education to Christ is necessary in order to learn this new way of life.

Matthew 11:29
Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

If this knowledge sounds new to you it’s because it is, which is another point of conflict that people use to resist the salvation that God is granting because it’s unfamiliar (1 Corinthians 2:13). However, the gospel of Jesus Christ is like any change that anyone would experience in the world that requires one to learn or embrace something new.

There are always challenges and adjustments that go along with this and the gospel of Jesus Christ is the same in this regard too, to bring man out of the stupor of false confidence and false comfort zones. The difference though, is that God provides us with His peace to make this transition to His covenant. This is another token of evidence that God provides for us in Himself as we embrace His knowledge to take on His likeness by faith. God assures us that He will be with us.

John 14:26-27
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.

27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

John 16:33
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Matthew 28:20
Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.
