Ministers continue to “ponder” tongues and wonder about it, but never place it in the covenant. That is now changing as God has restored to the church the true doctrine of Christ. As we get deeper into exploring the depths of the Father’s wisdom, we see again why apostolic stewardship is the key to unlock the mystery of Christ.

Because there are 2 separate and distinct manifestations of tongues it’s understandable that ministers confuse the two. We’re going to clearly define the 2 manifestations of tongues so you can learn what they are and how they differ. We’ll start by looking a condensed definition of each before we get into the actual study.

1. The Gift of the Father:

This tongues is given as the evidence or sign or token that you are baptized with the Holy Spirit and thus born of God. Because it comes from within as God engrafts His Spirit within you, you can pray in tongues as often as you will to edify yourself and build up yourself on your most holy faith.

This tongues is given to all who come to Christ for salvation and needs no interpretation as it is your prayer language to God. It is the first tool a believer receives upon entrance into covenant with God and is also known as “The Seal of the Spirit”.

The baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of tongues is the starting point of your sanctification as God separates you from the world unto Himself with this power token. You need this power tool to reciprocate to God in kind. You will separate yourself from the world unto God by using this token of tongues. This is true holiness. (Acts 2:4; Ephesians 1:13; James 1:21; 1 Corinthians 14:2,14; Jude 1:20)

Those who lack experience with the tool of tongues might refer to it as an “utterance” made to God when in fact, it is better taught as “prayer” to God. The Holy Spirit is making intercession for you when you pray in tongues. Tongues is not your utterance language, but rather your prayer language. It is the tongues of angels (1 Corinthians 13:1). We’ll get into more about what praying in tongues means a bit further on into this study.

2. The Gift of the Spirit:

This tongues manifests as one of the 9 gifts of the Spirit and thus the inspiration for this utterance comes from without as the Holy Spirit distributes gifts as He wills to the members of the Body for their edification, exhortation, and comfort. This manifestation of tongues is God speaking to man and needs interpretation to be understood by man. (1 Corinthians 12:10)

Tongues #2 serves the same purpose as the gift of prophecy (not priesthood prophecy) as God testifies of Christ for faith’s labor to build upon this holy stone.

I call the first manifestation of tongues #1 (or Level-1 tongues) and the second manifestation tongues #2 (or Level-2 tongues) to help you differentiate between them. I also refer to tongues #1 as the tool of tongues in that it is the first tool a believer receives upon coming into covenant with God. I’ll continue to refer to it in that way just so you can get used to thinking of it in like that.

A common mistake amongst ministers when teaching about tongues is to try understanding tongues #2 (the gift) before first understanding tongues #1 (the tool). God is addressing that error to correct it. Once you understand God’s purpose for the tool of tongues for your daily priesthood you’ll understand why this reversal is causing so many problems in the church today.

I get asked all the time which manifestation of tongues is more important – and yes, one is more important than the other. This question also comes from not understanding the purpose of the tool of tongues (tongues #1). The tool of tongues is more important than the gift of tongues. Let’s learn why this is true.

Tongues #1 (THE TOOL)

The anxiety and confusion believers express over tongues is due to not understanding how they are brought into covenant with God through this seal. The way tongues is taught today is “my tongues, my way”. We will talk about the results of that philosophy in detail to learn how one’s circumcision can become uncirumcision. (Romans 2:25)

The church is now coming to terms with the fact that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is necessary to come into covenant with God. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the 4th step to covenant faith and follows after grace, faith, and righteousness. This is the path a repentance sinner must take to come to Christ on God’s terms.

We said that the baptism of the Holy Spirit is also called the gift of the Father. It is also called the promise of the Father, the seal, and the circumcision of the Spirit. We’ll start from the beginning to briefly look at what these terms mean to understand why they are used by the Spirit of God to describe your entrance into His kingdom.

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit: The baptism of the Holy Spirit evidenced by tongues identifies you as a child of God, having entered into His house and kingdom with the token of Himself. That which proceeds from me births sons and daughters and is also for your cleansing and sanctification.

This token shall be for your faith and represents the state of your conscience. The state of the conscience must be pure because as Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8)

It is this baptism of the Holy Spirit that identifies your salvation. It is this baptism by which you are baptized into Christ and into the Body.

Water is NOT the sign that you are in covenant with God. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is the sign. Jesus himself did not baptize the people in water to show that His baptism of the Spirit will supersede that of water. (John 4:2)

Acts 1:5
“For John truly baptized with water; but ye shall be BAPTIZED with the HOLY GHOST not many days hence.”

Acts 2:4
“And they were ALL filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to SPEAK with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.”

Everyone who comes into covenant with God receives the prayer language of tongues. To speak in tongues and to pray in tongues mean the same thing when we’re talking about tongues #1.

1 Corinthians 14:2,
“For he that SPEAKS in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understands him; howbeit in the spirit he SPEAKS mysteries.”

I Corinthians 14:14,
“For if I PRAY in an unknown tongue, my spirit PRAYS, but my understanding is unfruitful.”

The Purpose of Tongues Restored to the Church

Romans 8:26,
“Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities: for we know not what we should PRAY for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh INTERCESSION for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”

Underline the word “mysteries” in 1 Corinthians 14:2 and the words “infirmities” and “intercession” in Romans 8:26. The mysteries which you speak in tongues (when you pray in tongues) has to do with the healing of the soul’s infirmities. Each wound inflicted by Satan left a scar in the soul, which needs the healing hand of God. By Jesus’ stripes you are spiritually healed (Isaiah 53:5)

These scars are also known as the fruits of iniquity. They are manifested in the thought processes and inclinations governed by the flesh that held the soul in bondage while in the kingdom of darkness. Now that you are born of God by the baptism of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit makes intercession for you as He makes search of the caverns of your soul, shinning a spotlight upon these fruits of iniquity to target them for healing.

Romans 8:27,
“And he that SEARCHES the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh INTERCESSION for the saints according to the will of God.”

Not really understanding the purpose of tongues, ministers were unable to make the connection between tongues (the tool) and regeneration (the daily work of the Spirit to heal the soul of Satan’s scars and to create within the soul the divine nature, thus placing within the treasury of the soul the fruit of Christ).

The FRUIT of Evangelism Confused With the FRUIT of the Spirit

For a long time the devil refocused faith upon evangelism where false fruits were dangled in front of the eyes of an infant church. Faith was geared towards outward signs. The 3 Ms as I call them: Multitudes, Money & Miracles. Placing emphasis on outward fruits, the true regeneration of the soul was ignored.

When a path is chosen for faith that deviates from the plan of God, this is first seen in how tongues is misunderstood and misused. Isaiah 53:5 was read from this entrenched mindset and a deviant pattern emerged to where the healing of the outward body was sought after rather than the healing of the soul.

When God sent apostolic stewardship into the church to correct this error, believers returned to their first love. They began to accept that God’s purpose for them was the fruit bearing of the soul. Not the fruit of souls won into the kingdom, but the fruit of the Spirit born in the heart by the divine power to give us beauty for ashes. Let’s read what the Spirit brought out through Apostle Peter on this subject.

2 Peter 1:3-4
“According as his DIVINE POWER hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue. Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the DIVINE NATURE, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.”

Jesus said, “Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear MUCH FRUIT; so shall ye be my disciples.” (John 15:8)
If you find yourself saying, Can’t we have both? Both the inward healing of the soul and the outward healing of the body? – you’re missing the point. You MUST focus your attention upon God’s purpose for your faith in regards to regeneration.

Yes, God can and does heal the physical body, but that is not the sign of discipleship. God heals people of all denominational backgrounds to leave a testimony of His presence in the earth and love for mankind, to invite all into covenant with Him. Are all those who are healed disciples of Christ? NO.

God reveals the gift of salvation through Jesus Christ. The fruit of the Spirit is birthed in the souls of His children. This is the mark of Christ. The Father has given to us those things that proceed out of His own bosom. This token is to serve me by my power. That which proceeded from the bosom of the Father goes to the bosom of our heart to be received back to Him in the fruits born within the soul.

And here, I am not talking about the fruits of the moral code that are fabricated from life’s choices to be kind, forgiving, compassionate, and doing good. I’m talking about the fruit of the Spirit.

When evangelism and outward manifestations of healing was mistaken for fruit then it was easy to rip off God’s people, passing off large congregations, multitudes, and money as evidence of God’s hand of blessing.

Many believers have fallen victim to Satan’s pretense of promise when taught that when they come to Jesus that God will do this—that-and-the-other-thing for them. Faith was geared towards moving the Spirit, creating an environment where the Spirit would move. The anointing was cast into this bed of lasciviousness. “Anointed” ministers were sought out that moved the passions of the people.

It is sinful to make promises to the flesh rather than teach the people the terms of the covenant to tether the soul to God for the power of regeneration in the promise of life.

God is judging this practice to lie to the people to gain their flattery and thus rob their heart of faith.

Once the bed of fornication was made to mate with the flattery of man then faith became feigned and it was easy to fabricate revival by using fables as bait. God’s people are vulnerable to this continued onslaught of the devil. People claiming to be “Spirit filled” and “Spirit led” were simply being filled with the passions of a seducing spirit and led thereby.

The Dry Wells of the Wilderness Church

Not having come into covenant with God, believes were cut off from the grace of God and that presented a huge, insurmountable problem for them. They needed the grace of God, which is only available on a daily basis when you are in covenant with God using His knowledge and His tools His way.

Ministers tried to remedy the “dry well/wilderness” scenario they found themselves in by asking, How can we experience the presence of God again? It was decided to turn up the voltage of worship to fabricate a placebo grace and also give believers an opportunity to rededicate their life to Jesus over and over again. Thus, introducing the merry-go-round feeling that is a common complaint amongst believers – which also is a barrier to the true grace of God.

Questions surfaced: Is God real? How can I know God? Is God involved with my life? Why aren’t my prayers answered? This confusion comes about because they are not in His name.
Jesus said, “Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father IN MY NAME, he may give it you.” (John 15:16)

In His name (or abiding in Christ) has to do with being in His house with His tools. If you’re not in His house with His tools, you’re not in His name, you’re not keeping His commandments. The apostles knew the connection Jesus was making to His name, the terms of the covenant, and keeping those commandments.

The first tool of your sanctification is tongues – your prayer language. When your faith has not been sealed by the Holy Spirit and you’re not in His name, then ministry is geared towards sorting out these troubling questions. And from this confusing mind-set (created by the devil as his playground) came the recycled psycho-phacy.

That is, the deadly practice to use prophecy to speak to the psychology of man. Using psychology to forgive yourself and using scripture to justify it. We are justified by the Spirit, not by the selection of scripture taken to self.

When the gift of tongues is also drawn into this arena then each interpretation also speaks from the same recycled psycho-phacy. This is not the tongues that is joined to the covenant.

The True Purpose of Tongues Hidden From Ministers

The true purpose of tongues was hidden from ministers, but revealed to the apostolic stewardship tasked to restore the church to the covenant knowledge, tools, and priesthood. And now that knowledge is made manifest to the church.

When a minister had no clue to the true purpose of tongues you might have heard them say something silly like how beautiful tongues sound and how when they first received it, it was an awesome experience. You’ll notice the lack of substance in their teaching.

The Promise of the Father: The baptism of the Holy Spirit is also known as the promise of the Father.

Jesus said, “And, being assembled together with them, commanded them that they should not depart from Jerusalem, but wait for the PROMISE of the FATHER, which, saith he, ye have heard of me.” (Acts 1:4)

The promise of the Father is Himself. He redeemed us to Himself by giving us a token of Himself first in His Son, Jesus Christ and then in the Holy Spirit which was given upon Jesus’ ascension into heaven. The Holy Spirit, engrafted within the heart is a token of the promise of eternal life and the inheritance of the throne.

The Seal of the Spirit

The seal of the Spirit is the baptism of the Holy Spirit. The seal of the Spirit is the token of God Himself. God attends upon the servants of righteousness. His fire attends upon your faith. You must receive His baptism. For John indeed baptized with water, but Jesus, He baptizes you with the Holy Ghost and with fire. (Matthew 3:11)

Entering into covenant with God you enter in with nothing more than that first token which God issued to you to enter into his house with. Seeing that you have expressed faith in God, he gives you that token. With this token He engrafts Himself into your soul to thus bond you to Himself to establish His presence in you.

Ephesians 1:13-14
“In whom ye also trusted, AFTER that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also AFTER that ye believed, ye were SEALED with that holy Spirit of promise, Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”

Tongues is the ONLY sign God gives that He has sealed your faith with the token of Himself. Tongues of the covenant is what sanctifies your faith. With this token sign God confirms how we are to reciprocate to Him. We cannot give back (reciprocate) to Him anything less than Christ.

“Christ IN you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27) Christ is not IN you because you made the infamous prayer to “invite” Him into your heart. That was the devil’s cheating ways to by-pass the baptism of the Holy Spirit to get you to focus your faith on yourself rather than on Christ.

This is what we read in Eph.1:13: “…AFTER you believed you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise.” This gift was given to indwell a believer AFTER he had repented of sins, AFTER he had believed Jesus to be the Son of God the Saviour of the world, and AFTER he had accepted the testimony of Jesus Christ and agreed to the terms of the covenant.

When God baptizes a believer with the Holy Spirit (witnessed by tongues) these 5 things take place:

  • 1. The believer is separated from the world and brought into covenant with God in order to serve Him.

    Hebrews 8:6:
“But now hath he (Jesus) obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.”

  • 2. The believer is now born again. When God places His Spirit into a believer, He is causing a spiritual rebirth.

    John 3:6, 7:
“That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is Spirit. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.”

  • 3. The believer, being born of God, is now a child of God (you are adopted into God’s family).

    Romans 8:15:
“For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.”

    Galatians 4:5:
“To redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.”

    Ephesians 1:5:
“Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will.”

  • 4. The believer is given an eternal inheritance.

    Ephesians 1:13,14:
“In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory.”

  • 5. The believer is baptized into the Body of Christ (to function in the priesthood).

    1 Corinthians 12:13:
For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.”

Taking Back Territory From the Devil

If you find yourself saying, But I did receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit with the evidence of tongues and I still don’t experience the divine change or the presence of God, the problem again is that you simply lack instruction. The foundation of truth has not been set in your heart. The Holy Spirit has nothing to work with.

The Holy Spirit is but one thread in the 3-fold cord that binds you to God. The other 2 are government and truth. Think of the foundation of truth as the rails that are set in the ground and faith as the train. The Holy Spirit empowers faith when the rails are set in place for faith’s mobility. No rails (no foundation of truth) and your faith doesn’t have anything to function with and the Spirit has nothing to empower. Do you see the importance of truth?

Here God introduces to you His true government. The true government of God sits upon the shoulders (or authority) of Jesus Christ. God authorized and sanctified apostles to instruct the church in the one true doctrine of Christ that the value God set upon Jesus Christ might be reflected in your faith.

Even as Paul spoke of his God-given authority when writing to the saints saying,“Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints.” (Colossians 1:25-26)

If you deny the government (stewardship of apostles) to set the foundation of truth in you, then you deny the truth, and unfortunately also deny the Holy Spirit the 2 things He uses to confirm Christ in you. Never forget your divine tether to God: Government – Truth – Spirit. The devil will attack you in any of these 3 threads to remove your faith from God.

John 4:24
“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in Spirit and in truth.”

Tongues: The True Sign of the Covenant

We are living in an age where ministers of unrighteousness are claiming the pine tree to be the sign of God’s covenant with you. This false revelation came through Dutch Sheets and is promoted by Jenifer LeClair and Charisma Magazine as God’s truth for you.

God is removing that lie and false token of the pride of man to restore you to the baptism of the Holy Spirit as the one and only sign God gives that He has made a new covenant with you through the blood of Jesus Christ.

The tool of tongues has been sprinkled upon with the blood of Jesus to sanctify it for your faith. Whereas the pine tree has not been sprinkled with the blood of Jesus and therefore has not been sanctified for your faith. Meaning, the Holy Spirit will not enter into that symbol to empower it – but your imagination can do that for you. Do you see the problem?

The Circumcision of the Heart: Let’s make the connection between the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the circumcision of your heart and then relate that to the covenant God made with Abraham.

THE TOKEN OF THE COVENANT: “And ye shall CIRCUMCISE the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a TOKEN of the COVENANT betwixt me and you.” (Genesis 17:11)

ABRAHAM PASSED ON THE TOKEN TO ISSAC: “And Abraham CIRCUMCISED his son Isaac being eight days old, as God had commanded him.” (Genesis 21:4)

NEW TESTAMENT CIRCUMCISION: And he [Abraham] received the SIGN of CIRCUMCISION, a SEAL of the righteousness of the faith which he had yet being uncircumcised: that he might be the father of all them that believe, though they be not circumcised; that righteousness might be imputed unto them also.” (Romans 4:11)

Romans 4:12
“And the FATHER of CIRCUMCISION to them who are not of the circumcision only [Jew], but who also walk [Gentile] in the steps of that faith of our father Abraham, which he had being yet uncircumcised.”

Let’s look at the pattern God placed in Abraham for us to understand what it means to come into covenant with Him. Abraham first received grace from God, then faith followed, then God declared him righteous. Circumcision of the flesh followed as the sign that God had established His covenant with Abraham and that Abraham had accepted that he must serve God according to the covenant terms God had initiated.

You take the same path when you come into covenant with God. You first receive grace from God, then faith follows, then God declares you righteous. The baptism of the Holy Spirit (token of circumcision) follows after these 3 steps.

We read that earlier from Ephesians 1:13,“In whom ye also trusted, AFTER that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also AFTER that ye believed, ye were SEALED with that holy Spirit of promise…”

Let’s now look at those verses,“In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ.” (Colossians 2:11)

This putting off the flesh is the cutting away of former confidences and mindsets that at one time nurtured the old man to find righteousness by the moral code, to find ourselves in the signature of man, to find closure by the principle of self. These instincts are common to man and are played out by the suggestions of the enemy.

These habits of the flesh are the natural instincts the carnal man has with the flesh. God breaks this mold daily through the work of regeneration. Praying in tongues is the first step we take daily to prepare the heart to work with the Spirit as the Spirit makes intercession for you, searching the caverns of the soul to seek out those fruits of iniquity God is addressing for healing.

The Holy Spirit then initiates a daily growth cycle that mirrors Jesus’ example when He went into the wilderness: Revelation, Resistance, and Reward. We’re not going to talk about your growth cycle in this lesson. We’re needing to establish the connection to praying in tongues and the daily circumcision of the heart and how that applies to putting off the formed things of the flesh to put on Christ. Can you see the SIGN of CIRCUMCISION is carried over into the New Testament?

To determine Christ as the power tool of the New Testament is to reciprocate to God by the same power and virtue of His gift; this we see in the glory of grace manifesting in fruit. You can understand now why tongues is how God has provided richly for your care.

False Tongues Judged and Sent Away

The tongues of the covenant is sanctified as your tether to God in that God sprinkled the blood of Jesus upon it for your faith to labor with it and you are thereby observing Christ in the tool and using it according to the divine design (the regeneration of the soul with the engrafting of the fruit of Christ).

Tongues outside the covenant is that which is sent away. This addresses ministers who use tongues apart from the stewardship. They are as Ishmael, circumcised in the house of Abraham, but sent away.

And God will send away the ministers of unrighteousness who as Ishmael, seek to identify with that which prospers the flesh while at the same time mock the covenant. They are also as Hagar. Hagar believed Ishmael to be the son of promise and heir of Abraham and sought the inheritance to the philosophies of Egypt. When the true promised son arose from Sarah, Ishmael mocked circumcision and both Hagar and Ishmael (though he was circumcised) were sent away. Their circumcision becomes uncirumcision.(Romans 2:25)
